SASES Brief Friston villagers on National Grid Ventures NGV Nautilus Proposal

VILLAGERS IN FRISTON HAVE VOICED DISMAY AT NATIONAL GRIDS’ NGV NAUTILUS PROPOSALS

28th September 2021

SASES HEAR VILLAGE ANGER & DISMAY AT NATIONAL GRIDS PRESUMPTUOUS NAUTILUS PROPOSALS

SASES village briefing was held at Friston village hall on Monday 27th September. The volunteer based team from SASES provided a presentation on what is known about NGV’s proposals for Nautilus Interconnector. A summary and presentation slides are available here >>>

A question and answer session followed the presentation, it was clear from comments that people simply cannot comprehend how National Grid can base their whole consultation on a presumption there will be a grid connection point consented to at Grove Wood Friston. Community fears of a behind the scenes conspiracy are fast becoming a reality.

Key issues and follow up points from the briefing:

  • Criticism of a lack of credible imagery of onshore infrastructure, the images used in information material more suited for a holiday brochure. This is not the first converter station National Grid have built, so why is no imagery provided?
  • Criticism that the Friston information day is 10am – 2pm
  • Criticism no alternative connection points were provided, why does Nautilus not look at alternative ‘existing’ grid connection points (e.g Bramford or Bradwell).
  • Criticism NGV, like Scottish Power, fail to identify a single brownfield location for onshore infrastructure the ‘Nautilus convertor station’, how can NGV justify this?

The briefing was well attended (inline with current COVID guidelines), there was also the option for others to join via ZOOM.

SASES encourages everyone to try and attend at least one of the NGV Nautilus public information events listed below:
